Working larger on Japanese Sumi paper scrolls that are 9 feet long, she says she "played with the integration of the monotypes into visual stories that unleash the magic of nature through captivating imprints and impressions, weaving visual stories that resonate with your soul and delve into the beauty of the natural world in a whole new light!"

In addition to the six scrolls, the full series consists of new works on panels, as well as original matted monotypes.

Studio 55 Arts Guild Program

Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 1:00 PM

LOCATION: National Avenue Christian Church

1515 S. National Ave., Springfield, MO

Program by Lois Gress Neal

Join us on August 14 as we welcome our speaker, local artist Lois Gress Neal.  Lois started in clay and has now shifted her art focus to jewelry.  Here is Lois's statement about her career in art:

"I started working in clay in high school then continued at college in the Phoenix, Arizona metro area. My college teacher was very strong in discipline and technique of the wheel-thrown form and the Japanese firing method of Raku, which was so intriguing to me.

Pursuing this calling in clay, I taught pottery classes at the Visual Art Center of Phoenix as artist-in-residence for 12 years. I was selling my work at the arts and crafts shows and entering competitions. I have been fortunate to have won a lot of awards and my pieces can be found in corporate art collections, museums, and private collections.

My husband and I decided to move to Missouri 32 years ago for a new market and opportunities while traveling around the states selling at the art shows. I was adding copper wire to my Raku pieces for enhancement , and that opened the door to working in copper and sterling silver in the chain maille fashion. The jewelry that I was creating started selling
so well that I shifted my production to that medium and it has been wonderful in so many ways."
