JANUARY 2025
Studio 55 Arts Guild Program
Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM
LOCATION: National Avenue Christian Church
1515 S. National Ave., Springfield, MO
Program by Hing Wah Hatch
Join us on January 8, 2025 for a presentation by artist Hing Wah Hatch.
Here is Hing Wah's introduction: "This is a review into the works I have done in the past, hoping to find the path to better myself through it, looking for new paths to expand the horizon. As I was trained in western ways of working on and looking at art and only later in my life I have looked back to my traditional cultural influences. Most of what I have learned about Chinese art was through books, online, and advice from other artists. I have found calligraphy is a higher art form than painting in Chinese culture, how much symbols are tightly woven into the culture, and I lived through it without realizing the extent they formed my way of perception."
"I will touch on Chinese Word Etymology in pictograms and ideograms and the formal elements in Chinese calligraphy and painting and their similarity to certain aspects of western concepts in art."

The 12 paintings are acrylic on canvas, using only two colors (Prussian Blue and Titanium White, with three paintings also containing one other color). This was Doug's experimentation with creating tones of color (as you may know, he is colorblind). The exhibit remains up for several more weeks, with 20 percent of any sales returning to the Church.
