Janet Jordan
New Year New Medium
It’s a new year and I’ve decided to learn new ways to present my art. Without any formal training, I’m envious of you who have gone to art school and experimented with lots of different media. Everything is new to me but I’m determined to make my sculptures more accessible and sharable.
So this year, I hope to master cold cast bronze/resin, various finishes and step outside of the box of bronze realism with my animal sculptures. My first project is underway and I am using the mold of my original clay sculpture to pour my piece in resin. The piece is then reassembled with epoxy and the hard work begins. After 3 full weeks of sanding, Epoxie sculpting, more sanding, toxic dust, res- pirator, eye protection, Dremel, more sanding, painting with new airbrush, followed by chalk paint and finally I have reproduced my giraffe in resin. She is a new blank canvas on which I am having fun experimenting. The work in progress (WIP) is much too early to share, but for all you artists...... here is “All About Me” in evolution. I have high hopes for her.

I had covid for the last couple of weeks and so I have been in my studio sitting and doing coiling and listening to audiobooks. I cannot just sit in my recliner and be sick. This piece is made with silk ties and felted wool and waxed thread. I also put some of the labels on the inside and the 100% silk tags here and there on the outside. It's been fun to make. It's a rather large piece right at 50 ft of covered cord.

Hopefully, I can work out coming to the meetings in a few months. (Dawna has a different job and does not have flex time)
I was the featured artist at the Park Central Library during the month of January.

I call my art blog Sticks and Stones for a reason. I am always on the lookout for awesome rock treasures and am constantly searching for interesting shapes, especially hearts. I love the process of creating designs on my heart stones as a message of love on Valentine’s Day for the special people in my life. I also enjoy leaving a few of my heart rocks along our walking trail for others to discover and hopefully bring a smile and a spark of joy for the finder. I find rock painting both meditative and creative and love the idea of tuning something as basic as a rock into a work of art. Keep your eyes on the ground! You could brighten someone’s day with a treasured keepsake and a token of your love.

I’m currently down in Rockport, Texas for January and February. Currently the weather could be a bit warmer, but the ocean, palm trees and grass go a long way to improving my mood. Warm weather will surely return in a few weeks. I’ve connected with a group of gals, including fellow Studio 55 member Mary Johnson, who paint twice a week at one of the local volunteer fire department buildings. We pay a small fee and have the run of the dining room (with BIG tables) and kitchen. There is a lot of talent down here, lots of galleries, and a beautiful new fine arts center currently being built to replace our former one which blew away in 2017’s Hurricane Harvey. See you in March!
The photo was taken out the window of our rental condo.

I moved to Springfield full time from the Chicago area but have been coming here for almost 20 years to be with my son and his family. My primary art creativity has been working with stained glass for over 35 years but began studying and painting with oils about 10 years ago. Recently I’ve been working on watercolor journaling which is very relaxing and fun especially to music!
I enjoy traveling to visit art museums, sculpture parks and cathedrals with stained glass windows and mosaic designs but when I’m home I enjoy watching other artists create, attending classes and collecting artwork that has a special meaning to me.
“Love what you do and have fun creating”… a message I have heard from many artists along my creative journey.
Carol

Jeffrey Jones will be discussing his career as a professional artist and show a Powerpoint presentation of some of his work as a sculptor, potter, painter, and guitar maker over the past 30-35 years. He will tell stories about each piece/photo, touching on the medium, thought processes and techniques. Additionally, He will incorporate some discussion of economics, small business, and entrepreneurship as it relates to making a living as an artist.
Born in 1961, Jeffrey has been a working artist for over 35 years, with extensive experience as a production potter, commercial sculptor for the gift, architectural ornament, and toy industries. He established his own pottery studio in 1986. but worked full-time as a production potter for Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO until the mid-1990s. During this time, he was also sculpting prototypes for the gift and architectural ornament industries.
Employed as a staff sculptor for McFarlane Toys from 2000-2005, he sculpted action figures for many of the most popular movie properties such as the Terminator and The Matrix, as well as dozens of other properties in the movie, television, gaming, music, and sports genres. After McFarlane, Jeffrey sculpted prototypes for several other toy companies, producing toys and collectible figures for popular properties such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Resident Evil, Pirates of the Caribbean, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Atlantis, Sin City, Child's Play, among many others.
That experience is a powerful tool with which Jeffrey develops his own concepts and ideas into fine sculptural works under his own name. In addition to his sculpture and pottery work, he is also an award winning painter. He currently works out of his own studios in Neosho, Missouri, creating exquisite figurative sculptures in several types of clay media. He and his wife Donna own and operate The Clay Cup, a coffeeshop, gallery, and clay studio. They also purchased the old Congregational Church building across the street, converting it into a music venue and event center now known as Northwood Arts & Events.
Please see Jeffrey's website by clicking here! and join him on Facebook here
