Claire Barber:
I found a few of these small (4”x 4”) drawers in the sale bin at Michaels and decided to paint them for gifts as trinket boxes. For this one, my granddaughter’s favorite color is yellow so I began with a base coat using acrylic paint. Next, I lightly outlined my design in pencil and used permanent markers for the details. I thought the box needed a little dimension so I nailed/glued four wooden beads as feet on the bottom. For the final step, I used a clear acrylic spray on all sides to preserve the paint. For me, additional fun starts when deciding what trinkets to include; sticks, stones or bones?

Our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Susan Loop
Studio 55 Arts Guild and the Springfield arts community lost a dear friend and fellow artist. tSusan Loop passed away December 22.
Susan was a talented and active artist who participated in local exhibits with beautiful pastel artwork. She also served on the Board of Directors and Exhibit Committee of Studio 55.
Susan was a retired US Navy veteran and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She said on numerous occasions she felt fortunate to have trained under numerous award winning artists including Audrey Bottrell-Parks. Before her passing she expressed her thankfulness to all of you who prayed for her during her treatment for colon cancer. The family held a private memorial service. We will always remember Susan for her loving heart and beautiful smile.

Rodney Lemonier will be sharing his creative journey and development as a ceramic artist. Rodney has many interesting and fun stories to share with us about his artistic adventure. He and his wife Judy grew up in New Orleans and studied ceramics in south Louisiana at Nichols State University under Bill Kremer, now Prof. of Ceramics at University of Notre Dame.
They helped in the Founding of Good Earth, a craft community in Thibodaux, La in 1972. There, along with 15 other Art students from Nichols State University and Florid Atlantic University they built kilns, pottery wheels and studio space for pottery, wood, and fabric. In 1976 Rodney and Judy, along the collective, purchased land in North Central Arkansas where they once again built kilns and working studios to practice their art and community lifestyle until 1982. They continued working in their studio in North Central Arkansas from 1982 to 2014 when they once again relocated to SW MO. There they built another studio space and continue to work from their new location.
Rodney and Judy are still active in applying and participating in Juried arts festivals around the US as well as operating their studio and Gallery.
Their studio and gallery is located at 4395 E. Oliver Place, Rogersville, MO 65742. Please see the Website and call to schedule a visit: GoodEarthPottery.com
We hope to see you on January 12th! Remember you are invited to show and share 1-2 pieces of your art following the program.
