STUDIO 55 JUNE PROGRAM

VISITORS ARE WELCOME!

"Echoes of the Ozarks
A collaboration of Two artists"

On June 14th come meet Dana Neuenschwander and Lura Faye by stepping into the world of these two Missouri native artists and experience the dappled light, velvety moss, and rustling leaves of the backwoods as your eyes wander through their works of art. Their collection of 2-D & 3-D works will provide the viewer with an understanding of the beautiful forests of Missouri and its abundant flora and fauna. Their art will transport the observer with an experience of the Ozark woodland landscape that both artists have grown up in. This collection of art seeks to preserve the heritage of the Ozarks through the eyes of these collaborative artists. This body of work is a visually and sensory rich experience for all viewers.

Dana is a painter and Lura is a sculptor who have decided to combine their passion for the forests of Missouri into a symbiotic collection. The body of work will include acrylic paintings, paper sculptures, and mixed media with unusually intense colors and lush textures. Through this collection the magic of the Ozarks is captured so the onlooker can reconnect with their childlike wonderment.

Lura Faye, (website) B.S.Ed., M.A. is an artist represented by Formed Gallery. Dana Neuenschwander (website) B.S.F.A., M.L.S.  is an artist represented by Formed Gallery and Fresh Gallery.

I have a glass top drafting table with places on the side for pens, cutting tools, pencils and/or other tools, drawers underneath the table that can hold a variety of items and a side leaf that pulls out to use for materials or to make the space bigger. I am asking $125 for the table and the buyer must pick it up. I have no way to deliver it. Carol Chappell phone: 417-894-1299

Call for Artists: Art in the Garden

We would love to have local artists display and sell their work during the Phelps Grove Neighborhood Art in the Garden tour. It will last from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 25. Maps to the tour will be sold in the parking lot of the Springfield Art Museum, and visitors can park there too. The map will show which gardens are open to visitors and which artists will be displaying work in each garden.

We need to know as soon as possible who will participate and what kind of work they will be displaying so we can match artists and gardeners and then create flyers advertising the event and get them distributed to businesses in the area.

Please give us their name, phone number and e-mail address so we can communicate with you. Call Vicky Trippe, 417-865-6333 if you are interested.

There is no cost, and all the money artists take in during the day is theirs.

The information and photos of past tours is up on the web site of Neighborhood News, and the story and photos are in the March newspaper.

Jim Landis

Title: “Ozark Adagio”
 Charcoal on paper
14x17

I have been enjoying the quicker process of charcoal as I take a break from color. This recent portrait was a joy to do as I pushed past previous charcoal drawings. In this drawing I expanded the compositional elements to include a hand and violin. (I have done several posts and videos on the process of this drawing on my personal Facebook page: “Jim Landis” please feel free to view. I took about ten photographs of the sitter and combined four different photos to make this drawing- one for the face, one for the violin, and two different photos for the hand. The compositional principle of “simplicity” is apparent in this drawing and to what degree of the success of the composition is due in large part to this.
