Claire Barber
The Easter Bunny is a folkloric figure and a symbol of Easter. Originating among German Lutherans, the “Easter Hare” originally played the role of a judge, evaluating whether children were good or disobedient, similar to Santa’s naughty or nice list. Legend has it, the rabbit would lay colorful eggs as gifts to children who were good and deliver them to their homes. Several years ago I decided practice with watercolors to make a set of Easter cards for my family depicting the Easter Bunny. I hope the Bunny came to your house this Easter! Hope you enjoy my watercolor Easter bunny cards!

Raised in upstate NY, Jim's early years revealed an inclination for art. Although regularly involved in artistic activities, it wasn't until adulthood that he 'crested the hill' and the panorama of the world of art opened up. Jim earned an associate of arts degree from Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, NY. While at college Jim met his future wife and would marry shortly after graduation. The demands of a growing family required a consistent income that artwork was not providing, Jim's activity in art receded. Twenty-five years later, in 2016, a turn in Jim's employment provided an opportunity for him to re-enter the pursuit of a career in the art field. Pastel is his medium of choice at this time, but he is looking forward to having a space that will give him the opportunity to return to oil painting.
Jim has been painting portraits since 2017. Jim confesses "Portraiture has always been a curiosity for me, I kept my distance from it for years, being afraid of it, but in 2017 I just dove in, and found I loved it more than any other subject matter. I thoroughly enjoy bringing out the details of a portrait through pastels." Jim is a member of Studio 55 and we are looking forward to learning more about his beautiful pastel portraits! LaDonna Greiner (New Member)
Landscape photographer LaDonna Greiner has three photographs on metal on display at the Sky Gallery “This is the Ozarks” exhibit through May 27, 2022. The life-like photographs include: Mystic Morning, taken late one October morning at the trailhead for Kings Bluff and Pedestal Rock Trails south of Jasper, Arkansas; Sunset Afterglow triptych features Lake Pomme de Terre; and A Walk in the Woods which LaDonna captured hiking the trail at Alum Cove in Deer, Arkansas while recovering from a broken foot.
So, you can look forward to seeing lots of new photographs at Formed Gallery, Joplin Empire Market and other shows in the region. For a sampling of her art check out her website, www.barnsbackroads.com or Facebook and Instagram @BarnsBackroadsByways.
LaDonna believes that nothing restores the soul more than time spent in nature. If you can’t physically be there, a photograph can take your mind, soul and body there vicariously. She says, “That’s why I love metal prints. People tell me they feel as if they are ‘right there’ in the midst of the forest.”
