“Exploring Batik: An Artist's View”
Speaker: Jean Rogers, Artist
National Avenue Christian Church
1515 South National Ave.
Jean Rogers will discuss how her interest in batik evolved over the span of 35 years and familiarize participants on the different steps that are required for doing an artistic batik. Several examples of her art will be on display, which has been her media of choice for many years.
Rogers said: "I became very interested in art in 5th and 6th grade. With the encouragement of my mother and both private and public teachers, I continued my artistic interest through my teenage years."
Jean Rogers was an education major with a minor in art at San Diego State University. After graduation, she was introduced to batik and it became her favorite. She also enjoys painting in oil, watercolor, creating art quilts, and sculptures. In San Diego, she participated in 2 art galleries and an art club, before relocating to southwest Missouri. Here in Springfield, she has belonged to several different art groups, including Studio 55.
